Day 1: Trial and Error

A comprehensive list of my many trials and tribulations and some successes on this first day:

1. Today started off with coffee and cigarettes (sorry mom) outside Cafe L'Avenue across the street from the festival grounds with Anne and Casey; I felt very French.
2. Then we all got to listen to IndieWire film critic Eric Kohn talk and that was really interesting, he gave some helpful tips and I enjoyed how he compared writing reviews to writing an article with a lead and all the essential info at the beginning, because I do have a journalism background.
3. Then we explored more of the Marché du Film and ate lunch at the American pavilion, which I won't be doing again because it was very overpriced, but I enjoyed the free lavender latté.
4. Then we tried to get into Sick, Sick, Sick but were turned away because a bunch of priority badge people came in last minute (the lady was nice about it though). Luckily there's three more showings of it so I will get to see it later.
5. After that, we visited Quebec's and the Czech Republic's pavilions and got some posters and postcards.
6. Then Joseph and I begged for premiere tickets for The Dead Don't Die for an hour and a half outside the Majestic hotel with no luck (I also low-key got kicked out for holding up my sign as I walked through the lobby after using the bathroom), but we saw some Indian and Italian celebrities, got interviewed by a Chinese reporter, and I honestly enjoyed people-watching, giving more faces for fuel for my dreams (I am incredibly sleep deprived).
7. Then we took the train back and I changed and got ready to go out tonight to survey the party/bar scene back at Cannes, which I'm about to do now with Caroline and Kyle. *Future update: we ended up not going out and decided to rest and plan more for the upcoming day, good decision.

So all in all, not a very successful day, but it was useful to learn what to do and not to do for the future. Plus tomorrow more screenings will be open, not just market ones, so it will be better and I'll be better prepared.
