Day 11: Romanian Short Films and Good Food
Today was another fairly chill day, I feel kind of bad for only watching one to two movies a day these last couple days but in my defense the screenings have been getting less and less abundant. Mostly we're just losing steam as we get closer to the finish line. Caroline woke me up at around 7:30 am this morning because we had to clean up our apartment for buyers coming to inspect it (just our luck) and write our reviews (both things we neglected in lieu of going out, turns out we got into the Director's Fortnight wrap party last night so it was worth it). Then Caroline got us some sandwiches for breakfast at the cheap stand right by the hotel and we headed out to the festival at around 11:30 am with Kristin and Gillian. Our initial plan was to head to The Traitor until we realized on the train that we'd need tickets to get into this so instead we headed to the AmPav to hang out for a little bit. We got coffee, planned out our day tomorrow, and got some free candy and bath products.
After this we went to go shop around Cannes some more and actually ended up going to the other Zara where I bought another dress and two tank tops. We also went by the festival boutique and we all got posters and I got a magnet for my mom. Then we had to hurry back a bit to make it to our first and only screening for the day: Romanian Short Waves which was eight short films from Romania showcased through the Short Film Corner. I'm thinking of writing one of my reviews on some of these films particularly the ones I liked were: "The Christmas Gift", "The Last Road to the Sea", and "The Call". I've mentioned this previously, but my best friend from high school is Romanian so I'm very excited to discuss and/or possibly show some of these to her. After this we headed back to JLP and grabbed dinner at this amazing hole-in-the-wall pizza place, got some crepes, and then got some groceries from Casino. We got back around 8:00 pm and have just been decompressing a bit before going out in JLP. The festival was such a journey and it is sad to see everything being packed up, but part of me is happy to slow down.
