Day 3: Chillin' Killin'

Today was pretty nice, I feel like I'm getting into the swing of things. I slept in a little bit later, because I'm trying to follow the advice of the student director from the AmPav: listen to my body and try my best to avoid getting sick. So I left the hotel around 10:15 am with Kristin, Bezawit, and Katie H. and the first film I saw today was at 11:15 am.

It was a German film called All My Loving, which while one of my favorite Beatles songs, just kind of fell flat to me. It was the story of three adult siblings told in five parts and the only story I really liked was about the sister. Her part was about losing her first child and how she coped with this grief through her at times obsessive love for dogs. Every other character I had a hard time getting emotionally invested in (one of the emotional beats of the brothers included getting rejected for a threesome) and it was just incredibly long and thematically scattered. But we were basically the only people in the theater and didn't have to wait, which was nice. After that we took a bit of a break in the UK pavilion and reunited with Caroline and Gillian to get some work done and plan out our next day.

Then we saw Bacurau, which was one of the Official Competition movies from France and Brazil. It was incredibly bizarre, but I enjoyed it. The soundtrack and the unique cinematographic flairs aided the story so well and it felt like a crossover between: The Purge, that episode "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" from The Twilight Zone (also I can't believe they're remaking it but that's another tangent), Get Out, and Three Percent (Portuguese dystopian Netflix show). It was super engaging even if the writing wasn't the best at times. Also we sat next to a producer from New York and an entertainment lawyer from Mexico and they were super cool and nice.

To end the day we swung by the clothing store, Zara, around 7:00 pm, but none of us bought anything because they closed early. Then we came back to Juan-les-Pins and heated up the last of our leftovers from the welcoming feast. We've been relaxing for a little bit (Caroline's been napping and I've been going through my pictures). Now we're about to head out to Hemingways in JLP with Kristin and Gillian to just grab a drink or two and decompress some more. So overall a pretty solid day three!
