Day 4: Luca Guadignino smiled at me and I saw some of my now favorite films

Today was really fun! Me and Caroline woke up at like 7:30 am (Caroline played the edit of "All Star" by Smash Mouth where it just repeats "And they don't stop coming," over and over again. We have become so sleep-deprived, we have transcended reality at this point). We really wanted to see the French documentary My Name Is Clitoris at 10:00 am and it was the only showing, so that's where we headed first after getting free coffee at the American Pavillion.

I really enjoyed My Name Is Clitoris, it was incredibly intimate and real and covered a variety of topics ranging from how masturbation and porn isn't normalized for women to how different body types and races and sexualities have different social expectations and repercussions in their sex lives. Plus it had some really beautiful animation and I learned more about the clitoris! The attendant for the film was also an incredibly nice French woman named Holga who told us about her son giving her Rocket Man premiere tickets the night before.

Then I went to the American Directors panel in the AmPav at 12:30 and I thought this was an
incredibly cool, interesting, and helpful experience. Met some Australian journalists, fulfilled my expectations of what Robert Eggers would look like (donning all black, wearing cool rings and possibly eyeliner) and they were all so down to earth and convinced me to never stop persisting in the film industry.  I was mildly heartbroken that Annie Silverstein wasn't there though.

Next Casey and I went to the cheap sandwich shop because we couldn't get into the Miles Teller panel and then hung out in the AmPav until everyone in the Miles Teller thing left and then a big group of us went to Steak n Shake (shakes definitely better than ours, burgers on par, fries I daresay worse).

Then we went to the premiere of Luca Gaudagnino's short film "The Staggering Girl" which was a pretty cool trance-like dreamy piece that was low-key a Valentino advertisement but I still enjoyed the aesthetics of it and we got to see the Q&A afterwards. Also Luca walked right past me and I waved and said thank you and he smiled at me and waved back!!!! We also met two really cool film students one from Berlin named Charlotte, and one from Dublin, don't remember his name sadly, who we are going to try to hang out with more next week.

To end the day Casey and I and our new friend Charlotte went to the premiere of Heroes Don't Die and this honestly is in one of my top favorite films I've seen so far. I just think this film was such a perfect balance of comedy/skeptism while still maintaining faith and mysticism. It also had the same lead actress as Deerskin and I just think she's incredibly talented and all the cast and crew (of only twelve people total!!!) talked for 20 minutes before. A few critics also talked because this was the kickoff for the Semaine de la Critique category. Afterwards I got some good pictures of the director and the actors hugging and tearing up as we all stood and clapped for them. I can't imagine how incredible that feeling must have been for those filmmakers and I hope to one day feel the same thing.

Anyways we're about to hit the town in JLP again so I must go but overall really awesome day!!!!
