Day 9: Seeing My Possible Favorite Film of the Festival?
Today started off pretty slow, slept in because we got back so late yesterday, I went grocery shopping yesterday so I got to make myself some breakfast and it was nice taking our time. So the first thing Caroline, Kristin G., and I saw (Gillian actually got up early, a queen, but she came and met us for this film) was at 2:00 pm called Homeward.
This film was Ukrainian and was pretty good, unfortunately I nodded off a little bit (this is the first time I've fallen asleep in one of the films though!) because the pacing was incredibly slow and I must've been a little more hungover than I thought. It was about a father and son going on a road trip to bury their dead brother and the last shot emotionally destroyed me (it just shows the back of the son as he drags his dead brother's body across a beach, yelling Muslim prayers for his dad to repeat back to him, but his father stops responding (the father is also dying) and yeah it was just a lot, him not wanting to turn back and the desperation steadily increasing in his voice). So that was an intense way to start the day.
After that the four of us went to this really cute Italian place and got pasta. Caroline and I headed to the UK Pavillion to snag more of those good shortbread cookies but they only had Pop Chips so we got those instead. Then we went to the AmPav where we got Irish coffees, because they give you a complimentary thermos mug with hot drinks, and met up with Anne. Then all five of us headed off to go see Parasite at 8:00 pm which is probably one of my top favorites from the festival, if not my top favorite.
Parasite was such a myriad of different genres and such an incredible showcase of the horror that wealth inequality causes and I was just completely engaged the entire time and floored by this compelling narrative. I may write my review that's due tomorrow on this film. Now off to bed, overall solid day.
